Kansas City Royals sign RHP Wade Davis to minor-league deal

The Kansas City Royals signed right-handed pitcher Wade Davis to a minor-league contract.

Davis, 35, spent the past three seasons with the Colorado Rockies after an All-Star season with the Chicago Cubs in 2017 and four seasons each with the Royals (2013-16) and Tampa Bay Rays (2009-12). A two-time All-Star as Kansas City’s closer, he led the National League in saves (43) and games finished (63) with the Rockies in 2018.

The Rockies released Davis on Sept. 21. He pitched in just five games last season, giving up 10 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

In his career, Davis has a 63-52 record and 3.81 ERA in the regular season with 139 saves in 517 games (88 starts).

Davis also has pitched in the playoffs six times and has a 4-0 record with a 1.80 ERA and eight saves. He was a member of Kansas City’s 2015 World Series-winning team.
