Kansas City Royals place C Cam Gallagher (shoulder) on 10-day IL

The Kansas City Royals placed catcher Cam Gallagher on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with right shoulder impingement syndrome.

The move is retroactive to June 17.

In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled catcher Sebastian Rivero from Triple-A Omaha.

Rivero, 22, will serve as Salvador Perez’s backup while Gallagher recovers. In two games with the Royals this season, Rivero is 0-for-6 with a run scored.

Gallagher, 28, is hitting .196 with no home runs and three runs in 22 games this season. Gallagher, who made his major league debut with Kansas City in 2017, is a career .233 hitter with six home runs and 28 RBIs in 127 career games with the Royals.
