Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is reportedly still among the final contenders vying for the Indianapolis head coach job.

Eric Bieniemy has been one of the most respected offensive minds in the NFL over the last few years. Since 2018, he has helped mold the Kansas City Chiefs offense into one of the best units each season as they often lead the league in many key categories.

Of course, the excellence of quarterback Patrick Mahomes has played a monumental role in their success, but the former NFL running back deserves a lot of credit in the 2023 MVP’s own development. Those truths are why Bieniemy has consistently been in the running for various head coach openings over the last few years.

However, despite being a lead coach on a Kansas City Chiefs team that has reached the AFC title game every year of his tenure, and three Super Bowl appearances, the 53-year-old has yet to land a coveted role leading an NFL franchise’s coaching staff. That could change after Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs OC has ‘outside shot’ at Indianapolis Colts head coach opening

On Sunday, just hours before Eric Bieniemy attempts to help the Kansas City Chiefs win their second NFL title in the last four years, his agent Jason Fletcher informed Pro Football Talk that his client still has an “outside shot” at the Indianapolis Colts head coach job. Bieniemy interviewed for the position in January.

However, if he does not land the position, Fletcher also revealed that the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator also has a few other options for next season. They include remaining with the Chiefs as OC, becoming the Ravens’ OC, taking the same role with the Commanders, or filling the position with the Cardinals after they also hire a new head coach.

It is still unclear who are the favorites for the Colts’ job with the organization now in the midst of a third round of interviews with top contenders. This week, several candidates — including Bengals and Giants offensive coordinators Brian Callahan and Mike Kafka — were informed they were out of the running.
