Josh Norman considers himself a top-five all-time cornerback

Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman obviously isn’t lacking from a confidence perspective.

The outspoken All-Pro performer, who just recently had the franchise tag placed on him, ranks himself among the best all-time corners in the history of the National Football League.

You read that right, “history.”

From a historical perspective, Norman’s top four makes perfect sense. Those in tune with the history of the game will primarily point to Dick “Night Train” Lane as the top corner in history. Meanwhile, Mel Blount, Deion Sanders and Charles Woodson would be in most people’s top five.

The issue here is Norman’s inclusion of himself on the list. We are pretty sure that Richard Sherman would have an issue with the Norman’s list. Heck, we might hear something about it on Twitter here soon.

Prior to this past season, Norman had flown under the radar as a solid starting option for Carolina. He then broke out big time, earning Defensive Player of the Year consideration during the team’s NFC Championship run.

Still, it’s rather absurd that Norman would think this highly of himself after just a few short seasons in the NFL. There are more accomplished corners not mentioned on the list, including Hall of Fame snub Lester Hayes to name one.

This could all be Norman’s way of upping the ante when it comes to his long-term contract negotiations with the Panthers.

He’s set to make $13.9 million in 2016 should he sign the franchise tender Carolina threw his way this week.

From a confidence standpoint, it’s hard not to be impressed with Norman. He displays this sort of ego on the field, so why shouldn’t it extend to off the field?

It’s now time for Norman to back this up moving forward, especially considering he will soon be one of the highest-paid defensive backs in the NFL.
