Jon Gruden: Patrick Mahomes ‘has my vote’ for MVP

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders had the pleasure of taking on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead on Sunday.

It didn’t go too swimmingly for the last-place team. Ultimately, Oakland dropped its 12th game of the season by the score of 35-3.

In the process, Gruden and Co. saw Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes join some elite company by putting up 5,000-plus yards and hitting the 50-touchdown plateau. The likely NFL MVP also led Kansas City to the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC by virtue of this blowout win.

Talking to reporters after the game, Mr. Gruden noted that he believes Mahomes should in fact be the league MVP.

Some will argue that Drew Brees deserves the award after leading New Orleans to the top seed in the NFC.

While an argument can be made for that, Mahomes’ historic season stands above anything else we’ve seen in recent league history. He’s just been stupid good.

As it relates to Gruden, his quarterback played like the antithesis of an MVP in Oakland’s season finale. It was bad. Really, really bad.
