John Elway: Broncos to hold individual workouts for top-four QB prospects

The Denver Broncos seem to be serious about taking another crack at landing a franchise passer in the 2019 NFL Draft.

John Elway, speaking to reporters at the annual league meetings, said he’s bringing in the four top quarterbacks most say are the best of this year’s class for individual workouts.

Elway said Denver will be hosting Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, Daniel Jones, and Drew Lock, for top-30 visits before the draft, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic.

Of the four, Elway is said to be enamored with Lock, who has prototypical size and a gun for an arm.

Last year’s gamble on Case Keenum proved to be a huge mistake — one of many Elway has made since Peyton Manning retired. A few years back he traded up for Paxton Lynch in the first round, yet that moved backfired in a big way, and Denver has yet to recover.

Obviously, the trade to bring in Joe Flacco gives the Broncos time to develop a rookie quarterback, if indeed Elway does draft one in the first round this year. However, given his big strikeouts in this department in recent years, there’s not much more room for error — Elway must hit a home run in 2019.
