Jimmy Clausen to Miss Regular Season Finale with a Concussion

So much for the Jimmy Clausen experiment in Chicago. A day after the former second-round pick played well in the Bears loss to the Detroit Lions, it’s being reported that he’s going to miss next Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings with a concussion.

The Bears, who have nothing more to play for than draft positioning, benched Jay Cutler in favor of Clausen for the team’s game this past weekend. The Notre Dame product responded by completing 23-of-39 passes for 181 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He was also impacted a great deal by a ton of drops by Bears’ pass catchers.

Chicago wouldn’t really gain anything by starting Cutler, especially considering he’s likely going to move on from the team in the offseason. However, other reports indicate that the team will indeed go with Cutler next week.

Rookie sixth-round pick David Fales will get the nod as Cutler’s backup. Fales was activated from the team’s practice squad back in Week 15. And while it’s unlikely he’s the long-term solution, Chicago might want to see what it has in the rookie.
