What a difference a day makes. On Sunday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula would not comment as to whether Gabbert would remain the team’s starter in Week 11.
Now on Monday after a meeting with his quarterbacks, Tomsula announced that Gabbert would be under center in Week 11 when the team plays the Seattle Seahawks on November 22.
Gabbert scored two touchdowns in the first half of Sunday’s 17-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons and completed 15-of-25 passes for 185 yards. He threw two interceptions and the team failed to score at all in the second half of the game, however.
Tomsula commented on Gabbert’s performance after the game via 49ers.com.
“He had a nice day on third down. Very confident, (and he) knew where he wanted to go, and what he wanted to do. He put the ball where it needed to go on the field; the distribution of the ball was good.”
Gabbert, who hasn’t won in a start since Week 3 in 2012, also spoke about his opportunity to start for the team.
“I’m so appreciative for this opportunity. I just wanted to go out there today and just have fun. You play well when you’re having fun and that was the biggest thing.”
The last time the 49ers played the Seahawks they were at home and lost 20-3. After a Week 10 bye, the two teams will meet again up in Seattle when we’ll see if Gabbert can once again rise to the challenge.
As for Kaepernick, it’s becoming increasingly clear he isn’t going to be a part of the team’s future.
