Jim Larranaga is set to coach the men’s basketball team at Miami through at least the 2025-26 season, agreeing to a two-year contract extension to remain with the Hurricanes.

The school announced the extension Wednesday but provided no financial details for the deal with Larranaga, the winningest coach in program history.

“I’m honored and humbled by the University of Miami’s amazing continued support of me my players and my staff,” Larranaga said in a news release. “This extension is truly about all of us associated with the program and what we have accomplished together. I love working at Miami and this city has truly become home for me and my wife, Liz. I’m incredibly excited to continue coaching here at The U and look forward to leading the program to more memorable moments in the future.”

Larranaga, 72, has a 692-473 career record. In 11 seasons at Miami, his mark is 222-139.

He led American International College (1977-79), Bowling Green (1986-97) and George Mason (1997-2011) before moving south.

He has led the Hurricanes to four NCAA Tournament appearances, with a fifth all but assured this year. The Hurricanes finished fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season with a 22-9 (14-6 ACC) record and open play in the conference tournament on Thursday, facing either fifth-seeded Wake Forest or 13th-seeded Boston College in the quarterfinals in New York.

According to the school, Larranaga is the only coach in NCAA history to win 100-plus league games at three different schools in three different conferences.
