Jim Harbaugh, Jason Garrett favored to be next Panthers head coach

Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines have quite the test in college football Week 1

Now here’s an interesting turn of events. After the Carolina Panthers fired Ron Rivera Tuesday, Jim Harbaugh and Jason Garrett(?) are favored to be the team’s next head coach.

New odds released by show that Harbaugh and Garrett lead a wild field of candidates that includes Urban Meyer, and shockingly guys like Jay Gruden and dark horse Bill Cowher.

Harbaugh, of course, is always atop these lists. Thanks to his inability to win the big game at Michigan, that seems to be more than just hot air at this point, because the university may be ready to move on after losing eight in a row to Ohio State, the last five under Harbaugh’s watch.

The Garrett angle is kind of crazy. This is a guy who has failed to elevate arguably one of the league’s most talented roster in recent years. A guy who has the ever-loyal Jerry Jones seemingly ready to move on.

One person who’s not on this list and should be is Baylor head coach Matt Rhule. If I were a betting man, that’s who I’d put a few bucks on as the Panthers take their next steps toward what could be an extensive rebuild.
