Jets drooling over North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky

Bears, Mitch Trubisky

If the New York Jets get their way, University of North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky will be in a New York uniform in 2017.

A “rival scout” was quoted saying that he believes the Jets are hard after the Tar Heels’ signal caller. Trubisky is only a junior and has yet to declare for the draft which unfortunately for the Jets, is not the only problem.

“They got their eyes set on the North Carolina quarterback,” the scout said, per Manish Mehta, NY Daily News. “The Jets are all over this kid. All over him. They’ll probably deny it if you ask, but they love that kid. That’s their guy. They’re not going to get him though, because I think that kid is going to get over-drafted.”

Trubisky has had a big year for North Carolina. He’s completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 3,468 yards, 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions for a 161.0 passer rating (113.7 with the NFL’s math).

Unfortunately, the Jets will likely have a problem drafting Trubisky. New York is currently slotted into the sixth spot of the NFL Draft. The Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears and Tennessee Titans would pick ahead of New York if the season ended in Week 15. All except for Tennessee and possibly Jacksonville will certainly be in the market for a quarterback.
