It’s not likely that many people would associate Brandon Weeden with trash talking, but the Houston Texans quarterback was not afraid to lob a shot at the Dallas Cowboys and his former boss, Jerry Jones.
“I mean yeah, absolutely,” Weeden said during an interview with Oklahoma City radio station 107.7 The Franchise, via Tania Ganguli of ESPN. “We get to play extra football and (Jerry Jones will) be watching on his couch. That’s what it’s all about. We’re playing for something and it’s a fun time of year.”
Shots fired! Nothing is better than a little Texas on Texas banter, and if you don’t believe me, ask Jerry Jones himself.
“If you recall his parting shot was when they asked how he felt about his time here, he said he was pissed, the quote,” Jones said during an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “I like that. The thing that you wanted from him was competitiveness, caring, really getting in there and getting angst about it and really passionate about it. Boy, you got to have it there. It’s manifested in many different ways. It doesn’t have to come out in a real vocal way, but it’s got to be there. And, so, I’m really proud for him. I thought that was outstanding.”
Indeed, in the competitive world that is the NFL, a little bitterness and anger is not a bad thing. Weeden playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder isn’t going to be a bad thing for anyone.
One note, though. Weeden might have gotten a little ahead of himself.
Though the Texans need no fewer than nine games to go against them on Sunday, they’re not guaranteed to be playing extra football just yet. They do control their own destiny, though, because one more win means they’re in.
