Jay Gruden: ‘No timetable’ for Colt McCoy to play, could miss regular season games

The Washington Redskins listed Colt McCoy as their starter on the first depth chart this summer, but the veteran hasn’t played a single snap. Based on what head coach Jay Gruden said Sunday about McCoy’s progress, it may be a while before he’s ready, too.

Gruden said he’s not going to put McCoy on the field until he’s 100% healthy, and said he’s still rehabbing. He also said there is “no timetable” for a return, and that McCoy could miss the first few weeks of the season.

McCoy is rehabbing a broken leg that required multiple surgeries.

While he is out of commission, first-round rookie Dwayne Haskins and veteran Case Keenum are battling for the starting quarterback job. Keenum appears to have an edge at this time, but Haskins came on strong Thursday and threw one of the best touchdowns we’ve seen this preseason.

Gruden has said he wants to name the starter following the team’s third preseason game and has hinted that the rookie has a shot to win the job.
