While the legal situation surrounding Ray Rice and the NFL has come to a conclusion, this doesn’t mean that we have heard the end of it. Now that all parties central to the scandal itself can speak out, we are sure to find out the opinions of those who have shaped the situation for the better part of the last year.
Rice’s wife, Janay, just recently sat down with NBC’s “Today” in an exclusive interview that is set to air in two parts on Monday and Tuesday. She focused on Rice’s future in the NFL and the league’s handling of the situation that has unfortunately, as a victim, placed her in the public eye (h/t Yahoo).Â
I know for a fact that Ray told the honest truth that he’s been telling from February. As for Goodell, I can’t say he’s telling the truth.
Former U.S. District Judge Barbara Jones overturned the indefinite suspension that Goodell and Co. handed out to Rice following the release of the video of him knocking Janay Rice out in a casino elevator. Her ruling indicated that the league’s decision to suspend Rice indefinitely after imposing a two-game ban on him was “arbitrary” and an abuse of “discretion.”
In a separate interview with ESPN, Janay Rice had the following to say (h/t Yahoo).Â
Ray told the commissioner, and his colleagues, everything that happened. There was no reason to lie because we knew that there was a video and we assumed the NFL knew what was in it, even though we didn’t know whether or not they saw it.
Moving on from the scandal that has surrounded her family, Rice focused on her husband’s possible future in the NFL.
For them to look past this situation, which I know is going to be hard,” she added. “But at the end of the day he’s a football player and that’s what they should be really focused on because he’s proven himself as a football player for seven years. There’s never been a question on what he can do on the field.
It’s hard to imagine a team taking a major PR hit in order to sign a running back in Rice who was already on the downswing of his career prior to this entire domestic violence situation.
As it relates to Janay Rice’s comments, we are sure to hear a lot more from her in the aforementioned interview with NBC later this week.
