San Diego right-hander Jake Arrieta sustained a mild left hamstring strain in his club debut, Padres manager Jayce Tingler said after Wednesday’s 7-5 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
Arrieta departed after 3 1/3 innings due to the injury. He was rocked for five runs and seven hits — including a homer to Dom Nunez — before exiting.
“He came out with a left hamstring strain,” Tingler said, also professing he was encouraged with Arrieta’s outing. “Trainers think it is a mild hamstring strain. Hopefully that is the case that it is mild and we will see how quick he can bounce back.”
Tingler was unsure if Arrieta would make his next start, saying “we will have to wait and see how it goes.”
Arrieta, 35, signed with the Padres on Monday, four days after being released by the Chicago Cubs. His record fell to 5-12 and his ERA rose to 7.13 after Wednesday’s setback.
