Report: Jadeveon Clowney not expected to hold out into regular season

Jadeveon Clowney

Jadeveon Clowney is not expected to show up for training camp, but the good news is the pass rusher’s holdout isn’t expected to last into the regular season.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on this situation Tuesday on live television. He noted that Clowney has been in contact with his teammates, has been studying the playbook and preparing himself for the season.

A source close to Clowney told Pelissero that he’d be “shocked” of the edge rusher held out into the regular season.

Clowney has yet to sign his franchise tag, which is worth just under $16 million.

The NFLPA is expected to file a grievance on his behalf due to Houston’s OLB/DE tag distinction, which is costing Clowney roughly $1.7 million compared to what defensive ends make on the same tag.

Should Clowney decide to hold out during the regular season, every game missed would cost him roughly $1 million. As much as he’d like to have a huge pile of cash on a long-term deal, that ship has already sailed. With that in mind, it seems logical that Clowney would show up in time for the regular season.
