Isaiah Crowell released after Jets sign Le’Veon Bell

The New York Jets signed Le’Veon Bell, landing one of the biggest fishes in the free agency pool this year. Not surprisingly Isaiah Crowell was released a day later.

The Jets announced the move on Thursday morning.

Crowell was set to enter the second year of a three-year contract signed with the Jets last year. However, he didn’t carry the load the way New York perhaps was hoping he would and finished the season on injured reserve due to a toe injury.

During his lone season with the Jets, Crowell rushed for 685 yards, averaging 4.8 yards per carry, and caught 21 passes for 152 yards. He also got into trouble for a rude gesture after scoring a touchdown against his former team, the Cleveland Browns.

Still just 26, and having shown himself to be a consistently productive runner the past few years, Crowell shouldn’t have any trouble finding a new gig.
