Ice Cube issues statement commending Olympics for including 3-on-3 basketball

Ice Cube and the BIG3 are preparing to launch this summer. Just in time for the inaugural season to begin, the International Olympic Committee announced it is including 3-on-3 basketball for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Not surprisingly, Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz, co-founders of BIG3, are excited about this development. They issued the following statement, commending the committee for confirming “our gut instinct that 3-on-3 basketball is what sports and entertainment fans want to see.”

As Alex Kennedy points out in his tweet, the BIG3 is certainly a big winner with the Olympics embracing this version of basketball.

The burgeoning sports league recently inked a television deal with FOX Sports, and it has signed many former NBA greats to participate as coaches and players. The BIG3 also smartly hired legendary former Oakland Raiders executive Amy Trask to be its CEO.

Clearly, Ice Cube and Co. have some high hopes for the BIG3.

The league will have its official 2017 season start on Sunday, June 25th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
