Carolina Hurricanes winger Teuvo Teravainen has a concussion and won’t travel with the team for its five-game road trip that begins with games against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday and Thursday, coach Rod Brind’Amour said Tuesday.

Teravainen, 26, missed the Hurricanes’ games Saturday and Monday against the visiting Lightning after taking a big hit from Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nikita Zadorov in the Hurricanes’ 5-3 win on Friday.

Teravainen has two goals and seven assists in 12 games this season. He posted 15 goals and 48 assists last season after back-to-back 20-plus-goal seasons.

Goaltender Petr Mrazek, who had surgery on his right thumb earlier this month, also has an uncertain return date, according to Brind’Amour. Mrazek has been back on the ice recently.

Mrazek owns a 0.99 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage, both of which are the best marks in the NHL among goalies with more than one appearance. He last appeared in a game on Jan. 30.
