The Houston Rockets signed journeyman guard Khyri Thomas to a multi-year contract, the team announced Friday.
Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed for Thomas, who has made an immediate impact since signing a 10-day contract with the Rockets on May 7. That transaction came as the NBA granted the Rockets a hardship extension due to a slew of injuries.
Thomas took advantage by scoring 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting in 23 minutes during a 141-133 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on May 7. He followed up the next day — his 25th birthday — with 27 points and five steals in a 124-116 setback to the Utah Jazz.
Thomas added a career-best 11 assists with just one turnover in Houston’s 124-122 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
Thomas has averaged 16.3 points, 5.0 assists and 3.8 rebounds in four games (one start) with the Rockets.
That’s solid production from a player who had been idle since the G League season ended two months ago.
Thomas played at Creighton and was a second-round pick (No. 38 overall) in the 2018 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and sent to the Detroit Pistons in a draft-night trade. He averaged 2.3 points in 34 games for Detroit over two seasons.
