Houston Rockets G Austin Rivers leaves Orlando due to family matter

Flush with NBA title aspirations, the Houston Rockets are set to resume their 2019-20 season a week from Friday against the in-state rival Dallas Mavericks.

Though, Houston could be without a core player as it prepares for the final eight regular-season games and the playoffs.

Austin Rivers leaves Orlando to deal with urgent family matter

It’s something we have seen several times since 22 of the NBA’s 30 teams headed to the Walt Disney World bubble. Players having to deal with family matters amid the raging pandemic in the United States.

As for Rivers’ absence, it’s obvious that he’s asking for some privacy right now. Given that it’s an urgent family issue, said privacy should be respected.

The son of Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, Austin is also related to Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry. The two are in-laws after Rivers’ sister married Curry’s brother, Seth, who is a member of the Dallas Mavericks.

As for the Rockets, they will resume the season with a 40-24 record and as the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Rivers, 27, is averaging 8.5 points on 36% shooting from distance this season.
