The Miami Heat waived forward Justin Champagnie and center/forward Cheick Diallo on Saturday, four days ahead of their season opener against the visiting Detroit Pistons.
Champagnie, a second-year forward from St. John’s, averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in five games split between the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics.
Champagnie was signed by the Heat Aug. 11 and averaged 7.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in four preseason games.
Diallo, a 27-year-old who played in college at Kansas, has 183 NBA games (three starts) under his belt. He was signed by the Heat Sept. 27 and appeared in three preseason games with Miami, averaging 2.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.9 minutes.
