What a roller-coaster ride it’s been today watching Xander Schauffele and the rest of the leaders slug it out at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Schauffele has been absolutely lighting it up with the flat stick on the greens. In fact, heading into the 17th hole Sunday in the final round at Colonial, he had drained 65 feet worth of putts on his previous three holes.

Here’s a look at one of the long putts Schauffele drained to tie the lead.

Then, incredibly, on the 17th hole Sunday, this happened.

Here’s how co-leader Collin Morikawa reacted to that brutal lip-out bogey that pushed Schauffele back one stroke.

The gut-wrenching miss had the rest of the golf world feeling things, too.

Golf is hard. Some days, it’s harder than others.
