Giants rookie QB pays tribute to Kobe Bryant with jersey number

New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones has decided to sport the No. 8 jersey as the top-round pick starts his NFL career.

Most of the time this wouldn’t be newsworthy. That’s until we realize Jones’ exact reasoning for wearing eight. It’s all about Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant.

Want to feel old? Jones was not even born when Kobe made his debut with the Lakers back in 1996.

Despite this, it seems that the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft grew up rooting for the future Hall of Famer. Bryant wore the No. 8 jersey up until the 2006-07 season.

A native of North Carolina and Duke product, Jones has no real connection with Bryant outside of the fact that he attended the school Kobe would have suited up for if he had not gone straight to the NBA from high school.
