The Georgia Bulldogs managed to win their second consecutive College Football National Championship on Monday, January 9. Less than a week later, tragedy has struck the football team.

Devin Willock, a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman who plays for Georgia, died after being involved in a car accident in Athens, Georgia, on Sunday morning. Chandler LeCroy, a member of the university’s recruiting staff, also died in the crash.

The single-vehicle accident is believed to have taken place at 2:45 AM ET, with a 2021 Ford Expedition going off-road and striking two power poles in addition to several trees nearby. Willock died at the scene of the crash. LeCroy was driving, and later was transported to a local area hospital via ambulance, but later died.

Two other passengers were in the SUV at the time, with a 21-year-old male suffering minor injuries, but a 26-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered serious ailments.

Willock, who was from New Milford, New Jersey, was just 20 years old and started two games this past season for Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs.
