Broncos’ Garett Bolles compares Russell Wilson to Michael Jordan

Russell Wilson, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant. One of these names is not like the others. But don’t tell that to Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles who recently suggested his new quarterback isn’t that much different than some of the greatest basketball athletes of all time, though we’re not quite sure why he chose players from a different sport than the one Wilson or Bolles currently play. Still, the comparison was made.

While he’s yet to suit up alongside Russ quite yet, that hasn’t prevented Bolles from gushing about the new leader under center in Denver. Speaking to the media for the first time since Wilson was acquired this offseason, Bolles had plenty to say about his new QB.

“You talk about some of the greatest athletes—Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Michael Jordan—the type of mentalities those athletes have—that’s what he has. He’s so focused all the time, ready to rock and roll, and it’s what we needed here.”

Well, that’s not as bad as it sounds on the surface. Wilson certainly is an accomplished individual, having won a Super Bowl in just his second year in the league despite not being a top prospect. At his best, Wilson is among the greatest in the game. Now that he’s in Denver, we’re looking forward to seeing whether he can continue being a top-rated QB, but some question how much life the 33-year-old QB has left on his fastball. Time will tell.

Bolles also made the bold claim that Wilson won’t be getting hit in Denver, or at least not like he had been during his Seattle days.

We’ll see whether that remains true, but for now Bolles and the Broncos are not only placing high expectations on themselves, but also on their new sheriff in town. Could it lead them back to the playoffs for the first time since their old sheriff left after a Super Bowl win in 2015? Possibly. Having Wilson should give them drastically better odds than before and that’s a good start.
