Frenchman Gael Monfils withdrew from the Rolex Paris Masters with an injury Thursday, giving top-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic a free pass to the quarterfinals.

Monfils, the No. 15 seed, said he has an adductor injury. He is 0-17 in his career against Djokovic, who is looking to win his sixth title in the French capital.

“Following the medical opinion of my team, we did an ultrasound a few hours ago and we identified the muscular lesion,” said Monfils, 35. “Following this, we decided with the medical team and my tennis team to withdraw.”

Djokovic moves on to face unseeded American Taylor Fritz in the final eight. Fritz advanced with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over No. 10 seed Cameron Norrie of Great Britain.
