FSU’s Everett Golson to start over Sean Maguire against North Carolina State

By Jesse Reed

After sitting out the past couple of weeks, Florida State’s Everett Golson was named the starter once again over Sean Maguire for the upcoming game against North Carolina State.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher made the call for Golson to start on Thursday, per Tim Linafelt of Seminoles.com.

Many felt Fisher’s decision to start Sean Maguire over Golson last weekend was the right move (we did), but ultimately he fell short. The Tigers pressured Maguire all game long, forcing him into one interception and keeping FSU out of the end zone through the air.

Now the ball goes back to Golson, who hasn’t lost a game for Fisher since coming over from Notre Dame this offseason via transfer. Utilizing his mobility, he has avoided a lot of big pressure this year and has been extremely efficient as a passer, completing 67.2 percent of his passes for 1,659 yards, 11 touchdowns and throwing just one interception.

Unfortunately for Florida State, it appears the switch back to Golson, who missed Week 9 against Syracuse with a concussion, was one week too late. Clemson’s win was the second loss on the season for FSU, which is now well out of contention for the College Football Playoff in January.
