Freddie Kitchens: ‘No discussion of shutting down Odell Beckham Jr’ due to injury

Despite reports on Sunday that star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is playing through a painful sports hernia injury, Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens made it clear the team hasn’t even had discussions about shutting him down.

Beckham Jr. reportedly dealt with the injury in training camp and the decision to not handle it then with surgery led to quarterback Baker Mayfield calling out the medical staff on Sunday.

Given the Browns are still fighting for a playoff spot in the AFC, it’s hard to blame the organization for wanting its star receiver to play. However, one wonders if Beckham Jr. would want to eventually sit out if the team is eliminated from contention, following reports that he wants out of Cleveland.

Obviously, the blockbuster trade that brought Beckham Jr. to Cleveland hasn’t worked out for the receiver or organization. Now, one wonders just how much longer the relationship will last.
