Frank Gore on Move to Colts: “I Feel that you Have to Have a great Quarterback”

Indianapolis Colts’ running back Frank Gore seems to be at peace with his decision to join the Colts versus signing on with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gore explained in an interview with ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he was literally minutes away from signing with the Eagles when he asked his agent to contact the Colts to see if they would match or go higher with their offer.

And they did. That’s where I wanted to be so that’s why I made the decision.

While Gore would have thrived in Chip Kelly’s heavy rushing offense, he went for the team who offered the best quarterback.

When I knew I wasn’t going back to the 49ers, my first option was I wanted to be with a great quarterback. I feel that you have to have a great quarterback to have a chance. Luck is a young quarterback and he does everything. He can throw. He can run. He’s physical. He’s a leader.

If you have been following Chip Kelly’s offseason juggling, you know full well the team’s quarterback situation is in a state of flux. As of right now, they have Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez prepared to compete for the starting gig.

If the quarterback situation is an indicator, Gore definitely made the right decision to join the Colts, who have earned three straight playoff appearances with Andrew Luck under center.

Entering his 11th season in the NFL, Gore knows that his time with the Colts will be limited. However, he plans to cherish every play as if it will be his last:

I don’t know how many years I’ve got left, two, three.” Gore said. “But I want to have the opportunities to get back and chase that trophy I really want before I leave.”

Gore just signed a three-year deal with the Colts, which will likely lead the five-time Pro-Bowler to his retirement. Whether he can team up with Andrew Luck and former Miami Hurricane teammate Andre Johnson to win a Super Bowl remains to be seen.
