Former Patriots QB Ryan Mallett arrested for DWI

A third-round pick of the New England Patriots back in 2011, quarterback Ryan Mallett never lived up to the hype that came with the strong-armed signal caller coming out of college.

Now set to potentially appear in the XFL after having not played professionally since 2017, Mallett is in some hot water off the field.

The 31-year-old was arrested on DWI charges in Arkansas on Tuesday after he crashed his car.

“Officials say 31-year-old Mallett was involved in a 2-car collision in Springdale around 6:30 PM. We’re told his car crossed over the center line while driving,” TMZ Sports reports. “Cops tested his blood alcohol level, and he blew a .08, jail officials tell us.”

This could potentially impact Mallett’s chances in the XFL. Founder Vince McMahon had previously noted that any player with a criminal record would not be invited to join the start-up league. The XFL Draft takes place in October.

Mallett started a grand total of eight games in six NFL seasons and finished up his career as a member of the Baltimore Ravens in 2017. He was out of football last season.
