Former NFL player Parys Haralson, 37, dies

Parys Haralson, who had a long NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints, died at the age of 37.

The 49ers announced Monday that Haralson died “suddenly.”

Haralson spent seven seasons as a linebacker in San Francisco (2006-12) and two in New Orleans (2013-14), amassing 275 tackles, 28 sacks three forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries in 118 career games, including 88 starts.

The University of Tennessee product was also part of the first Saints team to earn a road playoff win, against the Philadelphia Eagles in January 2014.

Following his career, Haralson joined the 49ers as the team’s director of player engagement from 2016 to 2017.

The 49ers wrote in a statement Monday, “The 49ers are heartbroken and shocked by the news of Parys’ tragic passing. Parys was a beloved member of our organization that lived life with an extraordinary amount of passion and joy, while leaving an indelible mark on everyone he came across. We extend our condolences to Parys’ family and loved ones.”
