Former Cavaliers GM David Griffin finalizing deal with Pelicans, per report

David Griffin is leaving the Cavaliers

Former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin will be given a second chance to run an NBA ship.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the New Orleans Pelicans are finalizing a deal with Griffin to become their next President of Basketball Operations.

This equates to Griffin pretty much being New Orleans general manager, replacing the recently fired Dell Demps in that role.

It’s no small thing. Griffin will now oversee the likely trade of star big man Anthony Davis during the summer. Davis had requested a trade this past regular season, but Demps was unable to deliver.

As a member of the Cavaliers’ front office, Griffin was responsible for bringing that franchise its first ever title. He’ll now look to make New Orleans relevant on the broader NBA stage.
