Former Bears TE Ryan Wetnight dies at 49

Bears 2020 NFL Draft

Tragedy struck the Chicago Bears and the broader NFL community Friday morning. Reports are surfacing that former Bears tight end Ryan Wetnight passed away at the age of 49 from stomach cancer.

The Stanford product and Northern California native had been battling the disease for years now. He was initially diagnosed with an inoperable tumor in the stomach, leading to what amounted to be a death sentence. This came after the former NFL player had beaten cancer.

Wetnight starred for the Bears from 1993-99, tallying 172 receptions for 1,522 yards. He is survived by his wife, Stacey, and their two sons.

Those close to the former NFLer honored his life and grieved his death on social media immediately after news broke of Wetnight’s passing.
