Former Baylor star Jarrett Stidham ran high school scout team

Former Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham appeared to be one of the rising stars in college football during the 2015 season. Stidham, who was a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 class, according to 247Sports, signed with Baylor over numerous other offers. He went on to throw for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns (compared to just two interceptions) in 2015.

If all went according to plan, Stidham projected to have another big season in Waco, but Baylor was hit with a sexual assault scandal over the offseason, which led to head coach Art Briles losing his job.

Stidham quickly transferred from Baylor in order to avoid the fallout, and he decided to take the year off from college football in order to preserve his immediate eligibility for the 2017 season. He did transfer to McLennan Community College to complete his associates degree, but competitive football has been off the table for Stidham since his last snap at Baylor.

Well, kind of.

In a profile on the former Baylor star, Daniel Uthman of USA Today Sports relayed that along with working out at a facility with a trainer — D1Sports — Stidham actually practiced with a local high school.

That was how Stidham ended up having lunch with Jeff Hulme, head coach of Midway High School, one day in July. “He thought I was gonna ask to use the weight room or the indoor facility that they had,” Stidham says. “I was like, ‘You know, I don’t really have anybody to throw to. Do you mind if I come run your scout team every week?’ ”

Jeff Hulme, Midway’s football coach, played for Briles in high school, so there was a natural connection there for Stidham.

Stidham ended up throwing for Midway in practice three days a week, both keeping himself fresh while also providing Midway’s players with some excellent competition as well as someone to look up to and learn from in practice.

According to Uthman, Auburn hosted Stidham multiple times this fall, so the Tigers look like a potential option for the former Big-12 quarterback. Florida is also recruiting Stidham, as are a few other schools.
