Who will Floyd Mayweather’s next fight be against

Floyd Mayweather took all of 2023 off and left his legion of fans wondering if he will continue his exhibition fight tour or finally bring his competitive boxing days to an end. Well, it will be the former as it was revealed in May that “Money” will be back in action to face former foe Victor Ortiz in August at the 41,000-seat Plaza de Toros Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.

How to watch Mayweather vs. Ortiz 2 on August 24

  • Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz 2 will headline an event on August 24
  • The bout will take place inside the Plaza de Toros Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico
  • The broadcast home for the fight has not yet been revealed

Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz 2 preview

Mayweather vs. Ortiz will finally bring some interest to the 47-year-old’s strange exhibition tour as he competes against a fighter who will actually be a threat. Furthermore, it will be a chance to relive his golden days while offering Ortiz and his Mexican fans a chance at revenge after 13 years of frustration.

The previous history: The 2011 fight between the two went down in boxing infamy due to two specific moments. First, during an instance of frustration, Ortiz blatantly headbutted Mayweather while the two were locked up in the corner. Mayweather Jr. responded with a nasty hook after a referee separation that floored his foe and led to a TKO victory.

Can time close the gap? Mayweather Jr. is obviously no longer at his peak and that may give the 10 years younger Ortiz a chance to make up the technique gap if he can come into the fight in great shape. That alone will give Mexican fans hope to watch the American’s first loss, even though it won’t be an official bout.

The bottom line: This is the best matchup yet in Floyd Maywether Jr.’s exhibition tour and has a good chance to sell out the Plaza de Toros Mexico in August. A rematch of an infamous clash will be a great selling point for the two aging boxers ahead of the summer bout.

There is no doubt Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers to ever compete in the sport. Yet what makes him a one-of-a-kind is that his mix of skill and brash bravado was able to transcend the industry. He is the type of talent that combat sports fans have long been willing to pay big money to see him win, or hopefully lose.

The greatest villain in combat sports: Although Mayweather was a hero to some, relishing his role as a villain to all was what truly made him a box office megastar. And his ability to back up all his talk only heightened his appeal.

  • Mayweather racked up a 50-0 record and titles in multiple divisions during his run in the sport. Loudly trash-talking his way through wins over legends like Oscar De La Hoya, Pacquiao, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and Miguel Cotto.
  • In June 2022, Mayweather, Jr. was placed along with the immortals of the sport when he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall-of-Fame.
  • Floyd Mayweather record: 50-0 (27 knockouts)
  • Mayweather also has wins over several MMA and kickboxing veterans, including former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor.

The bad side of the legacy: Mayweather has also spent a good bit of time in courtrooms during his life.

Floyd Mayweather’s net worth

Money is often one of the greatest measuring sticks for a fighter’s success. As of 2024, Floyd Mayweather’s net worth is reported at $400 million. However, the boxing star claims it is closer to $1.2 billion.
