Florida State football to offer beer and wine sales this season

It’s becoming a trend around the college football world, and we’re not too sure how it’s going to turn out.

Florida State just joined a number of other schools to announce that it will sell alcoholic beverages before and during home games this fall.

“Florida State University will include beer and wine sales in five locations for home football games in 2019,” the school announced, via its official website. “Two locations within Doak Campbell Stadium will serve the expanded concessions menu along with three locations in tailgating areas outside the stadium.”

Allowing fans to partake in alcohol consumption while tailgating prior to games is an interesting strategy. At the very least, the Seminoles are not including spirits in their policy.

“We expect our fans who choose to take advantage of this program to do so responsibly,” Florida State Director of Athletics David Coburn said following the announcement.

This is yet another revenue stream for college athletics at a time when the entire amateur narrative continues to come under fire.
