Padres will be without Fernando Tatis Jr. at least another week

The San Diego Padres will not rush Fernando Tatis Jr. back from the hamstring injury that has kept him out since late April.

On Sunday, manager Andy Green made it clear the 20-year-old rookie will be out at least one more week.

“The anticipation he’s back this coming series or next series is way too fast,” Green said, per The San Diego Union-Tribune. “He’s not full-bore at this point… We said from the beginning — his pace. We don’t get to dictate the pace. He dictates it by how he feels every day. And he’s not ready to come back.”

When healthy, Tatis has impressed in his first MLB campaign. In 100 at-bats, he has 30 hits, including six home runs. He’s scored 14 runs and driven in 13 RBI with a .910 OPS. Additionally, the young shortstop has come up with one of the young season’s most impressive catches and is a defensive star.

The Padres are currently 22-19, good for third place in the N.L. West. Needless to say, getting their young star back can only help.
