Just days after the New York Giants released former No. 9 overall pick Ereck Flowers, he’s signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team is signing him to a one-year deal.

The obvious connection here is that Tom Coughlin is familiar with Flowers.
But aside from that, and in some ways because of that, this is a puzzling move. Flowers has started 48 games in his career, but it’s not a secret that he was among the worst starting offensive tackles in the NFL.
That being said, the Jaguars do have a need at the offensive tackle position due to injuries suffered to their starters. And given that this is reportedly a one-year deal, there’s not a lot of financial risk involved.
There just might be some risk involved, however, when it comes to the health of the team’s starting quarterback, Blake Bortles. Time will tell.
