Elina Svitolina of The Ukraine advanced to the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Camila Giorgi of Italy on Wednesday.

Svitolina, at No. 4, is the tournament’s highest remaining seed.

She won five of the first six games before withstanding a brief rally prior to serving out the first set. She also converted four of her 11 break points to dismiss the 61st-ranked Giorgi.

Svitolina will face Czech Marketa Vondrousova, who moved past 29th-ranked Paula Badosa after the Spaniard retired following a 6-3 loss in the first set. Badosa left the court in a wheelchair because of heatstroke.

Fifteenth-seeded Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over seventh-seeded Garbine Muguruza of Spain, while ninth-seeded Swiss Belinda Bencic outlasted 13th-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, in another quarterfinal tilt.
