In her first post-Olympic race, 100m champion Elaine Thompson-Herah ran the second fastest time in the history of the event at 10.53 seconds.

This beats her time of 10.61 that she ran in the Tokyo Olympics final, which was also her previous personal best time and was the fastest time ever by a Jamaican in the event.

Thompson-Herah shattered the previous meet record of 10.70 set by 2012 Olympic silver medalist Carmelita Jeter in 2011.

She now joins Jeter and Florence Griffith-Joyner as the only women to run a sub 10.7 more than once in the 100m.

Olympic silver medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and bronze medalist Shericka Jackson, each took second and third place in the event running 10.73 and 10.76 respectively.

American runner Sha’Carri Richardson, in her first race since being suspended after testing positive for cannabis forcing her to miss the Olympics, finished in last place running 11.14.
