Thus far this offseason, Philadelphia Eagles rumors linking the team to a new head coach have been wide-ranging. Candidates on both sides of the ball have been bandied about to replace the recently-fired Doug Pederson.

We now have some more information about the latest candidate to receive an interview. To say it is surprising would be a vast understatement.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports that said interview will take place on Wednesday. Allen, 48, is an interesting candidate in that he’s worked wonders with the New Orleans Saints’ defense after taking over for Rob Ryan in that role midway through the 2015 season.

New Orleans finished this past regular season ranked in the top-five in both points allowed and total defense. It was the team’s best defensive performance thus far under Allen.

With that said, Allen’s previous experience as a head coach did not go swimmingly for the then-Oakland Raiders. He posted a combined 8-28 record in just over two seasons before being ousted four games into the 2014 campaign. He was seen as a bit immature for the job, something that could have changed in time.

Philadelphia Eagles rumors are all about head coach search

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has cast a wide net in an attempt to find a new head coach. He’s interviewed with both offensive-minded and defensive-minded candidates. Philadelphia has also recently put in a request to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

Philadelphia has already completed interviews with the following candidates:

  • Joe Brady, offensive coordinator, Carolina Panthers
  • Jerod Mayo, inside linebackers coach, New England Patriots
  • Josh McDaniels, offensive coordinator, New England Patriots

The team also has plans to interview offensive coordinators Nick Sirianni (Indianapolis Colts) and Kellen Moore (Dallas Cowboys) after missing out on former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

Yeah, it’s certainly hard to tell what direction this team is going to go moving forward. However, Dennis Allen is an interesting name to pop up.
