Those in the Washington D.C. area are likely familiar with this name. On Wednesday, the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles signed former Redskins running bacK Matt Jones. It comes after the former breakout star in the nation’s capital won a workout between three different free agent running backs.

Jones, 25, was a third-round pick of the Redskins back in 2015. He would go on to put up a stellar rookie season, recording nearly 800 total yards and four touchdowns. The following season saw Jones average a robust 4.6 yards per attempt.
But his time in D.C. was short-lived due to fumble issues. Ultimately, Washington decided to release Jones after he fumbled the ball eight times in two seasons. He caught on with the Indianapolis Colts last year, only to see five rush attempts in the process.
Jones now heads back to the NFC East, where he’ll battle Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Donnel Pumphrey and Darren Sproles for touches in a crowded backfield.
