Dwayne Johnson: Running for president ‘a real possibility’

The Rock Dwayne Johnson

The United States just elected President Donald Trump, who will be in office for the next four years. This apparently has not deterred actor and athlete Dwayne Johnson from possibly running for the same office down the road.

Here is an excerpt from an interview between Johnson and GQ Magazine in which he says it’s “a real possibility.”

“Johnson doesn’t hesitate when I ask him whether he honestly might one day give up his life as the highest-paid movie star on earth to run for president. ‘I think that it’s a real possibility,’ Johnson said,” per Caity Weaver of GQ Magazine.

According to the story, Johnson took a screen shot of an article posted on the Washington Post last year that suggested he could make viable presidential candidate. Johnson called the post “interesting” and “fun to read.” He also added that “the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country,” per Weaver.

Considering many would have never envisioned real estate mogul Donald Trump sitting in the Oval Office, Johnson occupying the job really does not seem too far out of the realm of possibility.

Johnson also revealed both presidential campaigns this past cycle reached out to him for his endorsement.

“Which I did not give. I felt like…and give me a second, because I’ve never said this publicly, so… I feel like I’m in a position now where my word carries a lot of weight and influence, which of course is why they want the endorsement. But I also have a tremendous amount of respect for the process and felt like if I did share my political views publicly, a few things would happen—and these are all conversations I have with myself, in the gym at four o’clock in the morning—I felt like it would either (a) make people unhappy with the thought of whatever my political view was. And, also, it might sway an opinion, which I didn’t want to do.”

As noted by Weaver, “he preferred to see Americans make up their own minds.”

Johnson carries a huge fan base and is admired for his football and wrestling talents as well as his many acting roles. He is a prime example of a public figure who has literally done it all but might be looking for a new adventure in politics.

Johnson keeping his political views and opinions to himself is obviously an excellent strategy at this time as he ponders potentially campaigning for office in the future.
