Drew Brees limited in practice, but Sean Payton won’t name starter for Cardinals vs Saints

Drew Brees has been working tirelessly to get back onto the field following thumb surgery, and it appears he has a chance to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said Brees was limited in practice Friday but noted both he and Teddy Bridgewater practiced a lot this week. He also declined to name a starter for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

To be sure, there is absolutely no rush to get Brees back onto the field, outside of his own desire to get back into action. Since Bridgewater took over as the starter in Brees’ stead, the Saints haven’t lost a game — something they recently highlighted in a hilarious troll job against a media personality who said the team was doomed when Brees was injured.

Still, getting Brees back into action has to be an enticing prospect for a team that is right there in the thick of the NFC playoff chase midway through this season. And based on what people are seeing from the veteran this week, he very well may get back on Sunday.
