Drew Brees, family pledge $5 million to aid Louisiana’s COVID-19 relief efforts

At a time when so many people are struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, many are stepping up to do whatever they can to help their communities. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees took that to another level on Thursday, announcing he and his wife are committing $5 million to help Louisiana during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brees announced the incredible donation to help do everything he can to support the communities suffering the most during the ongoing crisis. The 41-year-old quarterback made Louisiana his home in 2006 and is now taking the incredible steps to help his home in countless ways.

He announced that the donations will go towards the Second Harvest Food Bank, Ochsner Health Systems, Walk-Ons, Jimmy Johns, Smalls Sliders and Waitr. It will help provide more than 10,000 meals per day to children who rely on meal programs, seniors and families that need the support now more than ever.

Brees joins a growing list of NFL players that are stepping up to help support people in need. Baker MayfieldAdrian PetersonBrandin Cooks and Deshaun Watson have each donated money to help those most impacted by the COVID-pandemic.

They join multiple NFL owners that have also stepped up with donations for their communities. Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan pledged $1 million, the Arizona Cardinals ($1 million) and the Cleveland Browns’ owners pledged $1.5 million to local relief efforts this week.

Carolina Panthers owner David A. Tepper donated $2.65 million to aid the community and multiple organizations. Meanwhile, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank pledged $5.4 million to support Georgia and Montana during the crisis.

According to the latest information from Johns Hopkins University, more than 68,000 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 in the United States.
