Draymond Green’s mother comes to defense of Tom Izzo

Did Michigan State coach Tom Izzo go too far in chewing out one of his players on Thursday? The mother of one of the most famous players to ever play for Izzo doesn’t think so.

Izzo reprimanded and even appeared to make contact with freshman Aaron Henry (watch here). Some watching the game didn’t like what happened. Mary Babers Green, mother of Michigan State alum and current Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, did not have a problem.

That’s certainly one way of looking at it.

It’s hard to disagree with a lot of what Green was saying. This is somewhat complicated in that nothing Henry did seemed to warrant such a reaction. But coaches are not the friends of players. Sometimes a tongue lashing is warranted.

The physical contact, however light it might have been, is a different story. That’s a bad look.

Now, Izzo is not Bob Knight. His reputation is fairly good. That will likely keep this incident from taking on a life of its own. But it doesn’t change the fact that contact like that should not happen.
