The Miami Dolphins have signed safety Reshad Jones to a five-year, $60 million contract extension, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal includes $35 million guaranteed.

Jones, 29, has been one of the best safeties in the league for a long time. Last season, he ranked sixth at the position per Pro Football Focus grading at 88.5, the fourth time in the last five years with a grade above 86. Locking up Jones was undoubtedly a priority for Miami.

The Dolphins’ defense was spotty last year as they ranked 14th in pass defense DVOA. However, they were eighth in DVOA against deep balls, thanks in large part to Jones. With Isa Abdul-Quddus at strong safety alongside Jones, the Dolphins should be confident at the safety position for a long time.
