Dodgers SS Corey Seager to have Tommy John Surgery, will miss rest of 2018

A rough first month of the 2018 season got worse for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday. The club announced All-Star shortstop Corey Seager will undergo Tommy John Surgery and miss the remainder of the year.

Seager won the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year, was the NL’s Silver Slugger Award winner at shortstop in both 2016 and 2017, and made the All-Star team each year.

He got off to a slow start in 2018, but had gotten his slash line to .267/.348/.396 prior to his injury.

The good news is that the recovery time for position players is generally not as long as it is for pitchers. New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres underwent Tommy John Surgery last June and is already back. So, while Seager will miss the rest of the year, he should be expected back early in 2019.
