Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant didn’t do a whole bunch in his team’s season-opening loss to the New York Giants. Bryant caught just one of the five passes thrown in his direction for eight yards.
The Pro Bowler is now looking to improve on that substandard performance against the division-rival Washington Redskins in Week 2.
In preparation for the game, Bryant caught some of the tape from Washington’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.
He wasn’t impressed.
When asked what he thought of the Skins’ decision to put Bashaud Breeland on Antonio Brown half the time, Bryant’s response was classic (via Yahoo! Sports).
“No comment. LOL,” Bryant said as he walked away laughing.
Pretty much everyone who watched Pittsburgh’s 38-16 dismantling of Washington on Monday night walked away laughing.
How could the team put Breeland on Brown that much with the ultra-expensive Josh Norman signed specifically to shut down the opposing team’s No. 1 receiver?
Whatever the strategy was, it backfired big time on Washington.
Brown caught eight of the nine balls thrown his way with Breeland on him. Those eight catches went for 113 yards and included two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Brown caught zero passes when matched up against Norman.
While both Bryant and Norman are looking forward to going up against one another, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has different thoughts. He didn’t seem too keen on the idea of Norman shadowing Bryant consistently come Sunday (more on that here).
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Though, one thing is for sure. Washington better hope that its performance isn’t as laughable as we saw Monday night. If it is, Bryant will surely let them know.
